Titans Tryout FAQs

Q: Do I have to register my player online for tryouts?
A: Yes, advanced online registration is mandatory. Walk-ups will not be permitted. Online registration allows us to efficiently coordinate tryouts, giving coaches and evaluators sufficient time to assess each player’s ability and team placement. Registration online also reduces the repetitive completion of documentation and contact information as well as the need for you to bring additional paperwork to tryouts.

Q: Is there a set number of teams at each age level?
A: No, however GTFA generally runs two (2) teams at each level and a third (White Team) is offered based upon several factors that include but are not limited to: team composition considerations, competitive balance, coaching availability and facility/field space..

Q: Is there a set number of players on each team?
A: Typically, teams are comprised of 12 players. However, larger or smaller teams may be rostered after tryouts at the discretion of the GTFA board.

Q: Can a non-Glenview resident tryout?
A: Yes. Titans softball welcomes all players.

Q: Are tryouts closed to parents?
A: No, however, at the 12U - 14U levels, we strongly encourage parents to maintain a level of separation from the player during tryout drills.

Q: Is there a tryout fee?
A: No

Q: What is the 2023-2024 Titans player fee?
A: Player fees will be announced as soon as possible. Fees are due August 15 for each player. Several of the determining factors are the costs of off-season, indoor team practices, limited pitching instruction, field rental, umpire fees and more. Once the season and our fiscal year begin on September 1, the player fee is non-refundable and no refunds will be issued. Refunds will only be granted prior to the fall season start date of September 1. All refund requests must be submitted by email to GTFAsoftball@yahoo.com. The request must include the player’s name, coach’s name and reason for refund.

Q: What is the criteria evaluators use to choose players?
A: Tryout performance and age level are not the only criteria used for selecting Titans softball teams. Placement is based on the standards below, what is best for each player and the overall Titans program. Coaches and independent evaluators work jointly with the GTFA board of directors to consider these general standards when selecting players and the appropriate age level:

  • Tryout performance

  • Performance from the previous season for returning players

  • Player attitude and commitment

  • The number of teams for certain age levels

  • The overall skills level of players, pitchers and catchers for certain age levels

Q: How can players try out to play at a higher level than their age group?
A: Players are welcome to try out for two levels if they are considering “moving up” and playing at a higher level than their current applicable age. Titans bylaws state that if a player wants to “play up,” she has to participate in a tryout for the higher level group as well as her applicable age group. Players looking to move up should register with their applicable age level as well as the higher level, and notify Titans softball at gotitanssoftball@gmail.com.
